This plaza was the worst place to ever be. People were making sure that we were NOT alone. Men would come up to us girls asking how much we were. Like it’s just a place where it’s nothing but darkness. But I stood on the corner with my guitar, tambourine, and a water jug and we just had worship right there on the street corner in the midst of all the darkness. We WERE the LIGHT in the dark place. People were stopping right and left to see what we were there for and we would get to tell them and pray for them. It’s so good to see just a smile on someone’s face when you say “you are loved for who you are RIGHT NOW.”
This man with a bag of empty bottles came and just fell at our feet because he was so messed up. He had no home, food, drink, and just the clothes on his back. He had a HUGE knot on his leg that was bleeding. He had been beaten up. He also had a broken collarbone. We gave him water but he just threw it up because his stomach was SO empty. I thought that I was about to have a man die on us. But THAT’S HIS life. I can’t even begin to try and imagine what he goes through everyday. Seeing that just makes me stop and thank God for my life in HIM. Here I am being overly blessed and he is trying his best to stay alive. It wasn’t just him that day, that’s the lives of MANY here and we were shown all of that. You can’t let the lies of “Your not good enough”, or “you’ll never see them again” get to you. The Lord has brought you to that moment with them to offer them everything that the LORD IS to THEM.
Whether its 2 seconds, 2 minutes, 2 hours, 2 months, WHATEVER it is you have to offer everything you got, and EVERYTHING you got is The Lord Jesus Christ.
Same thing with this past week. I went to a place called Los Pinos where KIDS are digging in the dumpsters, where teenagers are so high off paint thinner to where its dangerous to go there without a male figure. The houses are what we would consider a storage unit, but EVEN WORSE. They have plastic for a roof. To bad if it rains. The sad thing is that that’s the only life they know of. Its so heartbreaking but also so exciting to know that we have come not to look down upon them but to LOVE THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE. We have come to offer HOPE, LIFE, THE LORD to the ones who believe they have NOTHING.
My Team and I got to fix a ladys house. We took EVERYTHING out and got to paint her walls and give her house LIGHT. She was in the hospital and it was a complete surprise to her. Now she is happily living in her Pink home on the top of Los Pinos because some Girls came to show her how you LOVE someone. We strictly were the hands and feet of Jesus by taking what was dark and boring and giving it LIGHT and LIFE. She will now know the love of the Father just because we choose to simply paint her house.
The life here is definitely hard to look at, but when you accept to LOOK through the eyes of Jesus and Love those HE shows you that needs to be loved RIGHT THEN, you HAVE to do it. You never know when someone may need that HOPE, LIFE, LOVE of Christ right then.
